It is renowned for its stunning gopurams covered in thousands of vibrant stone figures of gods, goddesses, and demons. Trivia: The temple complex has 14 gopurams, with the southern tower being the tallest at 170 feet, and it was a nominee for the New Seven Wonders of the World.

Ramanathaswamy Temple

A sacred Jyotirlinga shrine, this temple is a major pilgrimage site for both Shaivites and Vaishnavites. It is believed that Lord Rama prayed to Lord Shiva here to absolve sins committed during the war with Ravana. Trivia: The temple has the longest corridor among all Hindu temples in India, with over 1200 granite pillars, and it houses 22 holy water bodies (theerthams).

One of the most celebrated temples in the world, dedicated to Lord Venkateswara, a form of Vishnu. It is the richest temple in the world in terms of donations received. Trivia: The idol of Lord Venkateswara is believed to be self-manifested (Swayambhu) and wears real hair that is said to have been donated by a Gandharva princess.

Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu

A magnificent temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, built by Raja Raja Chola I. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an exemplary piece of Dravidian architecture. Trivia: The entire temple is built of granite, and the Kumbam (the apex structure on the tower) is carved from a single 80-ton stone. The shadow of the main tower is said to never fall on the ground.

A famous Hindu temple dedicated to the god Guruvayurappan (a form of Vishnu), often referred to as Bhuloka Vaikunta (the holy abode of Vishnu on Earth). Trivia: The temple is known for its strict dress code, and the main idol is made from a unique stone called "Pathalanjana Sila," which is considered exceptionally sacred and has special healing properties.
